Taking stock photos of women can be difficult and easy at the same time. As with taking photographs of any person, you want to have a message to give in the picture. You want to show the persons personality through the picture.
Lighting will play a major role in how the women come to look in the photographs. You want your models to look authentic, realistic, friendly, and relaxed. This is your job and you must take full responsibility to how the model ends up looking. Tell this to them as well. It'll take off lots of pressure.
Finding models to photograph is covered fully in Stock Photo Expert. It is not as hard as you think to find models and once you find a few you can keep using them over and over again. I know one particular model that is on a LOT of stock photos. I see her picture at lots of websites.
When you are lighting your models you want to make sure to light them appropiately. Front lighting will reduce blemishes and the shape. This can be great if you don't have access to make up or want the model to look thinner. Side lighting will do the opposite. It'll make their shape very distinct and make blemishes very obvious.
You can always go for the usual lighting of models but that will not provide any extra impact to the photograph. Try to light your model to further show their personality.
